Un ritratto di P.P. Pasolini

Vorrei esser capito dal mio paese,
ma se non dovessi esserlo,
ebbene
sopra al mio paese passerò in disparte
come passa una pioggia obliqua.
Così scriveva Majakovskij, negli anni della crisi, prima del suicidio.
E così scriverà Pasolini, nel corso della sua crisi – che non lo avrebbe abbandonato mai, dagli anni Cinquanta fino alla morte, non meno tragica di quella di Majakovskij:
se un poeta non fa più paura è meglio che abbandoni il mondo
e ancora
La morte non è
nel non poter comunicare
ma nel non poter essere più compresi
Per Majakovskij, come per Pasolini, il ruolo del poeta è politico. Non ha senso scrivere, “comunicare”, se non si è capiti, perché essere poeta significa creare, con i propri versi, un dialogo e non un monologo.
In tal senso, “comunicare” è amare, e il poeta, per Majakovskij come per Pasolini, scrive per il disperato amore che ha verso gli uomini, senza l’ascolto dei quali non ha senso la propria opera.
E non è un caso che Pasolini, nel corso della propria attività di artista e intellettuale, avrebbe avvertito l’affinità con il ‘cantore dell’Ottobre’, nella scrittura come nella comune sorte dell’esclusione, politica ed esistenziale, fino a sceglierlo (con Esenin, ma più di Esenin) come riferimento ideale nella ricerca di una nuova lingua per un nuovo teatro, ricerca politica e, dunque, stilistica (come era stato per Majakovskij, autore a sua volta di un teatro politico, che era stato la spina nel fianco della normalizzazione sovietica post-rivoluzionaria). Certo, nell’ambiente letterario comunista, Majakovskij – e il suo mandato – era stato un modello in quanto poeta della Rivoluzione, autore del poema su Lenin. Ma Pasolini non lo avrebbe amato per questo. La figura che lo attraeva non era quella fatta passare dall’apparato, ma quella formalista degli anni Venti, quella del poeta sperimentatore e nello stesso tempo (o proprio per questo) attento al mandato, all’essere, cioè, voce autonoma, autorevole e non dogmatica dei lavoratori, dei proletari. Un poeta, insomma, marxista, ma non stalinista.
Jakobson aveva scritto, a proposito del mandato di Majakovskij:
L’attuale disunione, la contraddizione tra la costruzione concreta e la poesia, “la questione delicata del posto del poeta nelle file operaie” è uno dei problemi più acuti per Majakovskij. “A chi serve, diceva, che la letteratura occupi un suo angolo particolare? O occuperà tutto il giornale ogni giorno, in ogni pagina, o non ce n’è affatto bisogno. Mandate al diavolo una letteratura che viene servita come dessert.”
In fondo, questo affermava anche Pasolini, nel momento della crisi denunciata in Empirismo eretico (e in seguito, fino alla morte). Se il ruolo del letterato non è più centrale, perché il momento storico che lo ha generato non esiste più, non si può ignorare la crisi che ciò produce. L’arte non può essere un “dessert”, e perciò deve avere dei valori di riferimento, che trova nella realtà che “esprime”:
Ogni artista si adempie secondo un complicato e fitto reticolato di proiezioni che partono dal momento storico che lo determina e che egli conosce ed esprime: quando questo momento storico è zero, l’artista impazzisce: è in uno stato di confusione, o di pseudo-sicurezza su valori ormai superati.
Come Majakovskij, che aveva dovuto prendere coscienza della fine della spinta della Rivoluzione d’Ottobre, così Pasolini avrebbe dovuto prendere coscienza della fine della spinta della Resistenza:
Le avanguardie riempiono di insulti gli scrittori tradizionali (impegnati), e chi gli risponde ha quasi sempre fatalmente torto. Nuove violentissime terminologie descrittive (la “tecnologia”, la “massa” ecc.) hanno preso il posto delle cognizioni in profondità dei problemi sociali secondo uno schema marxista tipico, ecc. ecc. Non c’è più una rivista letteraria autorevole che esprima il pensiero degli artisti di sinistra, molti dei quali cercano nuove formule d’impegno destinate all’assoluta impopolarità: altri dichiarano finito il mayakovskiano “mandato dello scrittore” (Fortini). (…) E’ finita (…) un’epoca storica – e ne comincia un’altra. Finisce l’Italia pseudo-nazionale dell’industria monopolistica, e comincia un’Italia nuova, che fonda la propria reale nazionalità sul reale potere dell’industria neocapitalistica e tecnocratica.
Dalla rivoluzione i poeti avevano “ricevuto il mandato di costruire realmente nel nostro tempo”, e Majakovskij lo avrebbe affermato fino all’anno della morte, il 1930. Così sarebbe tornato su questo punto, proprio nel 1930, in una conversazione tenuta a Mosca per i venti anni della sua attività:
Se oggi non sono nel partito, non perdo la speranza di fondermi un giorno con esso.
Questa speranza, che Majakovskij avrebbe perso insieme alla vita, Pasolini sarebbe stato costretto a perderla già a partire dall’anno della sua espulsione dal PCI. La “speranza di fondersi col partito” sarebbe risultata vana nel momento stesso in cui lo scrittore aveva affermato con più forza la necessità di creare un nuovo mandato. E a Fortini, che a sua volta cercava di trovare una spiegazione per la “fine del mandato dello scrittore”, Pasolini avrebbe indicato la strada che lo avrebbe condotto sempre più radicalmente verso lo scandalo, politico e scientifico – “la ricerca linguistica”:
Nella sede socio-moralistica in cui Fortini compie le sue indagini non sono abbastanza chiare le ragioni storiche di tale “fine del mandato”: forse in una sede neutrale e in qualche modo più scientifica qual è la ricerca linguistica, si può osservare meglio, a maggiore distanza, la serie delle causali.
Il mandato, (ossia la responsabilità del poeta che rimane “cittadino”), doveva essere ora sottoposto ad un’ideologia i cui strumenti cambiavano, o meglio si allargavano a scienze umanistiche che potevano leggere la realtà con il rigore dell’oggettività, e senza correre il rischio del dogmatismo e del moralismo (riflessione che avrebbe condotto Pasolini verso il Formalismo, lo Strutturalismo e Jakobson). Majakovskij, rivolgendosi agli amici formalisti dell’Opojaz, nel 1923, li aveva ammoniti così:
Il metodo formale è la chiave per lo studio dell’arte: Ogni pulce-rima dev’essere presa in considerazione. Ma guardatevi dalla caccia alle pulci nel vuoto. Solo con l’analisi sociologica dell’arte il vostro lavoro sarà non solo interessante ma anche indispensabile.
Un ritratto di Majakovskij
Proprio ciò che Majakovskij aveva chiesto sarebbe stato ciò che il secondo Pasolini avrebbe ritenuto fondamentale dopo la crisi del mandato – individuare un metodo “formale”, da applicare anche, metalinguisticamente, alla propria arte, senza dimenticare, però, l’esigenza di una parallela “analisi sociologica”, ancora più “indispensabile” nel pieno della Dopostoria. È così che l’impegno veniva equilibrato da un’attenzione umanistica verso l’arte, che impediva gli ingenui dogmatismi delle neoavanguardie:
Distrutto il “disimpegno” delle avanguardie dal nuovo impegno “attivistico”, pragmatico, delle nuove sinistre (i movimenti studenteschi), c’è ora il pericolo di un eccesso di impegno: ossia di quello “zelo” politico che può al limite definirsi come una sorta di insopportabile “neo-zdanovismo”.
Evitare l’impegno stalinista, senza rinunciare al proprio mandato, sarebbe stata dunque la scommessa di Pasolini, che, in quanto poeta, si sarebbe impegnato innanzitutto a riflettere sul suo principale strumento di lotta, la lingua, per combattere su due fronti – lo “neo-zdanovismo” delle avanguardie e il neocapitalismo. Entrambi i fronti parlavano (e parlano), infatti, la stessa lingua, tecnocratica, superficialmente sperimentale, omologante, massificante. La difesa della poesia popolare autentica, dell’idioletto jakobsoniano che diventava radicalizzazione del dialetto, la difesa, insomma, della lingua dei barbari sarebbe stato il mandato, antico e modernissimo, del poeta marxista, negli anni del Boom.
Dal momento in cui sceglierà questa strada per affrontare la crisi, prendendo, conseguentemente, le distanze dalle neoavanguardie, Pasolini non potrà che rivestire il ruolo, autentico, di compagno di strada. La definizione trockista lo rappresenterà perfettamente, perché sarà ormai manifesta la sua volontà di continuare ad essere comunista (e fino all’ultimo anno di vita si dichiarerà tale), ma in una posizione radicalmente autonoma ed eretica. Pasolini continuerà ad essere un “compagno”, ma rifiutando categoricamente ogni apparentamento con lo stalinismo dei dogmatici. D’altronde, il ruolo del poeta, esattamente come aveva affermato con passione Majakovskij, è quello di “parlare proprio nel momento in cui il politico tace. Questo è il suo sgradevole, inopportuno, irritante apporto alla lotta.”
Non volendo rinunciare a “parlare”, Majakovskij era stato progressivamente isolato e messo nelle condizioni di non poter più esprimersi. E persino il suo suicidio sarebbe diventato argomento di condanna e di scherno (per i burocrati del Partito come per gli anticomunisti occidentali).
Pasolini, continuando ad esigere il diritto all’autonomia, in quanto poeta, avrebbe subito, (e continua a subire), attacchi feroci da parte di molti “compagni” dell’intelligencija di sinistra (così bene e spietatamente descritti in Petrolio). Accusato di dilettantismo, narcisismo, addirittura di fascismo, anche la sua morte, com’era successo a Majakovskij, sarebbe stata ridotta a logica conseguenza di un borghese bisogno di amore ‘proibito’.
Ma Pasolini – come Majakovskij, che tante volte aveva anticipato artisticamente il suicidio – aveva cominciato a sperimentare la propria morte a partire dalla fine del mandato:
Come un partigiano
morto prima del maggio del ’45,
comincerò piano piano a decompormi,
nella luce straziante di quel mare,
poeta e cittadino dimenticato.
