Un ricordo di Giovanni Prosperi

Il 3 luglio 2021 l’artista, poeta e scrittore Giovanni Prosperi si spegne improvvisamente, nella sua casa di Roma, accanto alla sua compagna Ivana Rinaldi. Una partenza fulminea, che lascia familiari e amici attoniti. Inizialmente, per tutti, c’è solo un grande vuoto con cui fare i conti; poi, nei mesi, l’esigenza e il desiderio di godere ancora della presenza di Giovanni, mediante l’ascolto della sua voce e la condivisione della sua scrittura. Nasce così la volontà di incontrare una figura ricca e complessa del panorama letterario italiano, attraverso una conversazione con Ivana, nostra collaboratrice tra le pagine di Bibliovorax.

D- Cara Ivana, questi mesi senza Giovanni sono stati difficili per te. Cosa ti manca di più e cosa torna prepotentemente alla tua memoria? 

R- Domanda spiazzante, Gabriella. E’ sentirsi come un viandante nel deserto a cui manca l’acqua, ovvero tutto. Torniamo a terra. La nostra era una vita semplice, fatta di piccoli gesti quotidiani. Ecco: è la quotidianità che mi manca, i soliti gesti, i riti dell’esistenza comune, il sostegno reciproco, l’affetto, le lunghe discussioni sulla vita, la morte, l’aldilà, la politica, l’arte, le preoccupazioni del vivere che accomunano tutti. Una vita scandita da impegni e piccoli piaceri, una gita al mare, al lago, nei piccoli paesi del circondario e nelle Marche, qualche viaggetto, il cinema, una mostra, una cena con gli amici o i parenti. Non sono io a richiamare i ricordi, sono loro che si presentano in ordine sparso ma netti e precisi. Arrivano specialmente la sera nel tempo che precede il sonno.

D- Come ci descriveresti Giovanni, compagno di vita e Giovanni, intellettuale e artista? 

R- Non riesco a distinguere Giovanni compagno di vita e Giovanni intellettuale e artista. Era un unicum che metteva l’arte nella vita e la vita nell’arte. Non ha mai rivestito ruoli, la libertà era la cifra della sua esistenza e in lui si conciliavano perfettamente il sé e il fuori di sé. Aveva una mente androgina, la mente creativa per eccellenza, diceva Virginia Woolf. Tanto è vero, che era innamorato di “Orlando” su cui abbiamo lavorato insieme a un adattamento teatrale. Era predisposto per “natura” alla generosità e alla cura degli altri, capace di ascolto e di attenzione, profondamente buono, qualità che lo hanno fatto amare da tutti. Sempre felice di scrivere una nota o una critica per i suoi tanti amici artisti, di offrire la mano a chi amava e a chi ispirava la sua  simpatia ed empatia. Negli ultimi tempi osservava dalla finestra un senzatetto che dimora sotto casa nostra, per vedere se gli succedesse qualcosa. A Roma, dove si era trasferito dai primi anni del duemila, si faceva voler bene dai miei colleghi e compagni di partito, dai suoi amici artisti, dal parrucchiere, dalla farmacista, dal pizzicagnolo. Ha lasciato un ricordo indelebile in chi ha avuto la fortuna di incrociarlo sul suo cammino. 

Mi chiedi di Giovanni artista e intellettuale. Tutto per Giovanni era arte. Dalla cucina, ai piccoli lavori di restauro, ai libri usati e recuperati dalle sue mani con maestrìa e poesia. “Faremo arte con tutto”, motto che credo abbia ereditato dal suo maestro ideale Emilio Villa, con cui era entrato in contatto e del quale amava parlare spesso, specialmente del loro incontro avvenuto a Roma negli anni Novanta. La sua formazione intellettuale era sterminata; se per la poesia visiva si sentiva debitore di Apollinaire e Villa, i suoi riferimenti letterari erano Rabelais e Cervantes, per il teatro il suo “idolo” intoccabile Carmelo Bene. Le sue letture spaziavano dalla letteratura, alla filosofia, fino alla teologia. Negli ultimi anni era particolarmente attratto dalla storia delle religioni e dei miti: la sua biblioteca si era arricchita delle opere di Robert Graves, Calasso, Kerényi, Zolla, Frazer al cui Ramo d’oro si era ispirato per una delle sue ultime opere “Laggiù qualcosa per Bene”. Frequentava con assiduità la biblioteca di quartiere Giordano Bruno da dove tornava con i testi di Heidegger, Levinás, Derrida, Husserl, Wittgenstein. Si chiedeva, quasi ossessivamente, se la filosofia avesse ancora qualcosa da dire. Ciò che lo stimolava era la filosofia del linguaggio, una ricerca estenuante che lo sfidava quotidianamente nella creazione artistica. Non posso entrare nel merito della sua scrittura, non ne ho le competenze, ma ho assistito a “parti”, alcuni semplici, altri dolorosi.

D- Qual era il rapporto tra Giovanni e il nostro tempo? 

R- Un rapporto difficile, che si esprime in alcuni racconti e opere  teatrali, specialmente. Per Giovanni era centrale l’esserci, la sacralità della vita, la bellezza, mentre la storia dissacra la vita. La poesia e la scrittura segnano il suo saper stare in presenza del mondo:”La poesia è male incurabile e contagioso, sfonda le pareti contorte del labirinto, tende alla sanità e si autocura, forse non è perfetta, non ha l’autofarmaco, non è rimediabile, ma, il ma non manca mai: è.” (Giovanni Prosperi).

D- Cosa ti piacerebbe che si conoscesse di più dell’attività e della produzione di Giovanni? 

R- Mi chiedi cosa mi piacerebbe che si conoscesse della produzione di Giovanni. Io mi chiedo cosa piacerebbe a lui. 

Ci sono lavori a cui teneva particolarmente come lo studio dell’Angelo antropomorfo nella storia dell’arte. Un saggio ispirato al pensiero di Aby Warburg e dedicato alla sua forza e passione.  Avrebbe voluto continuare a lavorare per apportarvi “migliorie” e per vederlo pubblicato. L’unico che avrebbe voluto vedere in stampa.

Gli erano care anche le fiabe dedicate a sua figlia Martina. Non credeva invece che la poesia potesse avere uno spazio nell’editoria contemporanea, nonostante ogni occasione fosse buona per scriverne: su un conto di ristorante, una velina che ricopre le arance, un pacchetto di sigarette, un libricino creato da lui. Le sue poesie sono l’espressione che sento più vicina alla mia sensibilità, arricchite da un fiore, un coriandolo, un segno, un disegno, alcune semplici, alcune complesse, come la vita e come era Giovanni.
